New Lara Statue
Thanks to Diamond
Comics, a great new 8" Lara statue is being released. They
describe it as "Specialty Market Exclusive! Video game icon,
Laura Croft [sic. tsk, tsk !!!], sheds her shorts and t-shirt
(easy, fanboys!), and trades up for a slinky black evening
gown. Doing her best "super spy" pose, Ms. Croft¹s gown
features metallic flakes in the paint. Statue measures 8" tall,
with a sculptred base and nameplate. Scheduled to ship in October
2002.It's priced at US$99.00, however. Click
here, or on the pic above for larger images.
If you aren't a member of the Tomb Raider:
AOD mailing list, head
to the official site and sign up. This month we got some exclusive
wallpapers featuring the new character to be introduced in 'Angel
of Darkness' - Kurtis Trent. You don't get very much mail from
them, so it's worth it for the occasional neat thing like this
But, if you missed out this
time, you can download them here:
TR Gameplay Movie
Eidos have released a new movie of the
latest gameplay developments in the Tomb Raider series, which shows
Lara's new fluid and realistic movement. It looks *amazing* - I
can't wait for this game !!! The file is only about 1MB to download,
so it's really worth it. You can download the movie from Tomb Raider:
clicking here. They have heaps of brilliant movies, so have
Raider for PDA Demo
Yup, if you have one of those wonderful
pocket PC devices, you can now download a demo of the forthcoming
Tomb Raider game.
The game follows the story
of the original and famous Tomb Raider game - guide Lara through
ancient and fascinating locations as she searches for the mystical
artifact known as the Scion. There will be 16 levels across four
continents, with gameplay faithful to the original Tomb Raider
Head along to the
official site to grab the demo or just to have a look at
what the game is going to be like (there are screenshots and
Two new screenshots have been released
by the people over at the Official
Tomb Raider Site. This game just keeps on looking better and
better, so head on over and have a look at it all. ^_^
Raider Movie Script Reviewed
If you're not afraid of spoilers (and
I warn you, they apparently are there !), you can take a look at this
review up at Tomb Raider Chronicles. From the bits of the report
that I skimmed (I'm not fond of spoilers !), it looks as though
this new script will hopefully be a definite improvement over the
last movie, which many people criticised for its scripting problems.
Here's hoping... ^_^
The first official gameplay movie of
Angel of Darkness has been released - and it looks stunning ! If
you've seen the movies from E3, you will have already seen some
of the footage, but it's still worth it for all the new bits. This
one is going to be brilliant....so head over to this
link at the official Tomb Raider Site to check it out. You
will need Windows Media Player to view the video, however.
If you haven't already, check out the Official
Tomb Raider Site, where there are two new wallpapers, and
a heap of new screenshots from Angel of Darkness to ogle. There's
also the previously mentioned new
video to have a look at, so it's definitely worth heading
Raider: The Prophecy for the Game Boy ® Advance
There's a new Tomb Raider game being
developed for Game Boy Advance - here's the official press release
from Ubi Soft:
Los Angeles, E3 Show, May
22, 2002 - Ubi Soft® Entertainment, a world leader in interactive
entertainment, today announced a licensing agreement with Eidos
for Tomb Raider on Game Boy ® Advance. With the new two-year
agreement, Ubi Soft acquires exclusive worldwide development
and publishing rights for Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Prophecy
for the Game Boy ® Advance. The game will be released this Christmas.
"Lara Croft is one of the strongest
and most attractive personalities in the video game world", said
Alain Corre, Ubi Soft Entertainment's Vice-President for Europe,
Asia Pacific and South America. "I have full confidence in our
creation teams' ability to produce one of the best action games
available for the Game Boy ® Advance".
"With Ubi Soft's expertise
in developing successful Game Boy ® Advance games, we are confident
that Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Prophecy will maintain the high
standards people have come to expect from a Tomb Raider game," said
Mike McGarvey, CEO of Eidos Interactive.
The game will remain faithful
to the spirit that has made previous game versions - as well
as the movie - a worldwide success. Since the first Tomb Raider
game was released in 1996, the series has gone on to sell more
than 28 million copies worldwide.
Tomb Raider Comic - Best Ever !
The new creative team for the Tomb Raider
Comic have done an utterly, completely and totally stellar job
on this new issue. The new Lara is brilliant - funny, deadly, and
very true to character. Thanks for this go to John Ney Rieber,
the new writer (whose poetic words I greatly enjoyed reading).
Randy Green (now on pencils) has drawn a beautiful Lara too - full
of character, and very cool. Gee, can you tell I like this new
creative team much ? ^_^
The story that will unfold
through the next three issues looks to be very mysterious - this
first issue is a bit of a lead-in, to intrigue us all (and make
us go and buy the next two issues in this story arc, to be sure...)
- the strange theft or two of tenth century Tibetan mandalas,
although there's more here than meets the eye. I can't recommend
this highly enough to anyone who has passed over the comic previously
- give this new one a go, and see what you think ! As always,
click on the image above - or here -
for the full cover (and a pic of the new comic Lara) - although
this issue has appeared in stores with an utterly classy black
cover, embossed with gold foil. Woo....
This issue continues the convoluted
and interesting tale of Lara, Aspen and Sara as they hunt through
a glacier for Cannon, while his time runs out. Well drawn (as always
with Michael Turner), and with an intriguing storyline, this one
has been very much worth following for fans of any of the three
series involved in the crossover (Fathom, Tomb Raider and Witchblade).
Two great Tomb Raider comic issues at once....yay ! Click
here or on the small picture above for the cover.
Angel of Darkness Video
There's a new video available online
from the Official Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness website. What
should you do when confronted by evil ? Apparently you can find
out by watching the streaming video. Click
here to head straight to the official site and take a look.
Replaced as Lara ?
Raider Chronicles are reporting that Angelina Joile may not
appear in the second Tomb Raider film. Insteak, UK model and
sometimes TV hostess Kelly Brook may star as Lara. Kelly's latest
projects include "Smallville", and she had also hosted Channel
4¹s "The Big Breakfast" and MTV¹s live two-hour show, "Select.".
If you'd like to take a look at her, you can head to The
Official Kelly Brook Site (although you'll need to prepare
yourself for a little bit of horrid music. Don't worry, it stops.
Raider Charity Auction - only ONE DAY to go !
So if you want to get your hands on
this gorgeous outfit, you'd better hurry. There have already been
64 bids, and I'm sure bidding will intensify as the auction draws
to a close. Right now the price is sitting at 3,300 pounds, which
is unfortunately a little out of my price range. *sigh* Ah well...keep
bidding, everyone ! click
here for the auction
Raider Charity Auction Begins !
Yes, the legendary Lara Croft outfit
worn by Nell McAndrews is up for sale as I type. If you'd like
to see if you can get your hands on this gorgeous item, then click
here (although please note that you do need to be pre-approved
by the people running the auction - so you must contact them before
bidding). At the moment the bidding is at 551 British Pounds...but
with seven days to go, it's bound to skyrocket. Check it out, and
help charity along with getting your hands on a piece of gaming
for Tomb Raider in the MTV Movie Awards
The MTV Movie Awards are on again, and
Tomb Raider has been nominated in a few categories. Angelina Joile
has received a nomination for Best Female Performance (where she
is up against Kate Beckinsale - "Pearl Harbor"; Halle Berry - "Monsters
Ball"; Nicole Kidman - "Moulin Rouge"; and Reese Witherspoon - "Legally
Blonde."), and best fight sequence, for Lara versus robot.
You can vote for Tomb Raider right
here at MTV's website.
of Darkness Gameplay Movie
Tomb Raider Chronicles have a new movie
- apparently of the gameplay in 'Angel of Darkness', from the London
launch, no less. I'm still downloading it myself, so I haven't
seen it yet - but if you're interested, then click
here to head over and have a look. You'll need to have the
DivX 5 Player installed (yup, there's one for Mac and Linux too
!), so head to http://www.divx.com first
if you need it.
Lara's Old Gear !
Yes, you could own the *original* Lara
Croft outfit - everything minus the boots ! To aid Unicef, Eidos
is auctioning off the first ever real 'worn by Nell McAndrew' and
everything set of clothes. Wow !!! Bidding will commence on the
26th of this month, so that's how long you've got to get your life
savings together to help charity. Amazing...
Raider Comic #20
The latest TR Comic story arc winds
up in this issue, concluding this stange and amazing storyline.
Bringing together several threads of Lara's adventures throughout
the comic series, this one is definitely inventive and different
from your usual Tomb Raider story. Worth a look. As usual, click
on the small image above or here for the
of Darkness - Revealed !
Head very quickly over to Tombraider.com to
check out the cool (and decidedly goth ^_^) looking Lara - with
heaps of screenshots, wallpapers, and info on the new game ! Yay
!!! You can also view info on the new official Lara model - Jill
de Jong. Lara looks fabulous, and reading the press info, it sounds
as though they've gone all out making this game different and challenging...I
can't wait ! : D Click on the small image above for a full view
of the new Lara.
...is no more !!! Yes, the last issue
of the Tomb Raider magazine has come and gone...and there will
be no more large format re-prints of the Tomb Raider Comic issues.
*sniff*. Ending with issue #9, containing the reprint of 'The Lucifer
Text'. However you can still get backissues - email firstname.lastname@example.org for
more info on how to get your hands on them. As they said, 'Tomb
Raider Magazine has left the building. Thankyou, goodnight, and
could the last one out please remember to set the alarm and turn
off the lights'.
It's amazing how high the standard for
Lara look-alikes has risen - check out all these great costumes
and shots of Jenny Morgan from England as Lara - at
the Adventure Place. There should be a new Lara Lookalikes competition
coming up soon too, so start your creative brains working now !
#13 - Michael Turner Returns
Comic fans have been rejoicing as the
almost inhumanly talented Michael Turner returns to drawing, having
recovered from his illness (yay !). Fathom 13, the continuation
of the Tomb Raider, Witchblade and Fathom crossover is a worthy
first effort, too - for all those who have been gnashing their
teeth in suspense, waiting to see what would happen after Fathom
12 (myself included !) - you won't be disappointed. Ignore the
slightly mannish drawing of Lara on the
cover, and the whole thing is beautifully and exquisitely illustrated
- Michael's Lara will always be my favourite. To add to this, the
mysterious story rockets along, as we learn more about the ties
between all three women, and as Lara tries to avert the hideous
fate awaiting Cannon...this is a series no-one should miss !
I would strongly suggest reading
the earlier issue of Fathom in this series (#12 - although reading
the whole series would help, too ^_^), and recommend this to
anyone who loves Lara comics (or even if you don't, a great place
to jump in). Have a look at one of Michael's drawings of Lara
by clicking the image above (or here),
or here for the cover.
Raider Magazine #9 - Six Free Posters
The ninth issue of the Tomb Raider Magazine
comes with *six* (w00t !), glossy, massive Lara posters ! At A3
(double A4) size, they're almost worth the price of the magazine
as it is (even featuring a poster by Michael Turner, and of course
Andy Park). The magazine also reprints "The Lucifer Text" comic
storyline, illustrated by Francis Manapul, a nice change from the
normal pencils, and it fares very well being blown up. Brilliant
for Lara In Pieces !
Wow ! My first ever award...! *huge
grin, and blushing* From the great Swedish Tomb Raider site Cajsa's
Tomb Raider Site - come.to/ctrs. Check it out - there are some
great peculiar screenshots there - even if you can't read Swedish,
just head for the section titled 'Bilder', then 'Knasbilder'. Some
of them had me laughing out loud... ^_^ There's also heaps of other
stuff, so check it out !
Tomb Raider - The Next Generation Screenshots !!!
WOW ! Check it out...the latest info
on TR: Next Gen includes some freshly released screenshots of Lara's
next outing ! Yay ! You can check out the screenshots by clicking right
here. If you head along to Tombraider.com,
you'll also see a changed site - with a release date for the new
game (March 21st, 2002), and you can register to receive info and
exclusive news on the upcoming game. Wohoo !
Raider II Movie Info
IGN have a great page with the latest
info on the next Tomb Raider movie. They report that things are
looking up, as Joile has demanded a better script if she is to
participate, and they have two in production ! Hopefully this will
make for a stronger movie (well, I can dream, can't I ? ^_^). Check
it all out right
of the Peculiar Screenshot
Yup, it's back again - the first in
a three-part series over the next few weeks. Have
a look.... ^_^
Are They Now - Rhona Mitra
Many of you will remember Rhona
Mitra, one of the first Lara Croft models, who even released
a Tomb Raider music single. Well, lately she's appeared on the
cover of People magazine, and in E! Online's site - if you're
curious about what she's been up to, then have
a look here.
Raider Comic #19 - Joy !
This month sees us returning to the
main storyline - a twisty, turny tale with a bit of welcome satire
on reality tv shows. It's mysterious and full of action, with doppelgangers
aplenty. Lara has travelled to Africa to investigate the mysterious
disappearance of the cast and crew of a reality TV show called
'The Last'. But not everyone is what they seem...click on the small
image above to view the full cover.
Sorry - still without my computer, so
I'm still all disorganised and un-scannered. But I have installed
TR 1 in my borrowed computer, so the peculiar
screenshot has been updated. ^_^
- Megatokyo Style
The utterly briliant web-comic, Megatokyo,
in its beginning, featured Lara briefly in a few strips. I would
highly recommend any gaming/comic fan check this one out - it's
awesome ! Take a look at the first strip, with the Lara reference here.
My apologies at not having
any further news - at present, my computer is being fixed (*sniff*),
so I'm using an old 7300 loaned to me - this means I can't connect
scanners or anything, and I'm a bit disorganised ! But please
check out the peculiar screenshot as
it's been updated. ^_^
Just a sort of Christmas Present for
you all - if you click the above small image, you'll see a sort
of manga-style drawing I did of Lara a little while back. I hope
you like it - if anyone thinks it's worth colouring, let
me know, and I just might. ^_^
By the way, I recently accidentally
deleted all my email (I shouldn't stuff with my computer late at
night.....) - so if you have emailed me, please email me again right
here. If I haven't replied, that's probably why....sorry !
on Next Gen
The latest issue of gaming magazine
Hyper (issue #99) features an article on Tomb Raider: Next Generation.
Even with the huge Lord of the Rings special they have, Lara still
makes it on to the front cover, even though the article isn't huge.
It features an interview with Adrian Smith, answering the Hyper
crew on their Next Generation queries. Hyper specifically notes:
'What we'd like to see: No more crate pushing. No more jumping
from ledge to ledge. Innovation !' From what Adrian says, it looks
good for Tomb Raider fans. There isn't much in the interview you
wouldn't already know if you read the main news websites, but it's
nice to see some good publicity out there. ^_^
Check out the updated and flashy Lara's
World at tombraider.com. There's some galleries, info on
the models, games and everything else you'd expect. Classy wallpapers
and all...worth a look if only for the cute multi-coloured 'loading'
Raider Mag #8
This month reproduces one of the most
amazing plot turns of the Tomb Raider Comic series. Again, it comes
in all its full-colour A4 glory, with yet another classy poster
to grace your walls. At this rate, there'll be some people out
there with bedroom walls wallpapered in these things ! ^_^ A great
large size reprint of a brilliant issue. As usual, click on the
small image above to see one of the variant covers.
Raider Comic #18
This month sees a great little one-shot
story, featuring the pencilling talents of the newest Top Cow recruit,
Gerardo Sandoval. The pencilling style, although slightly strange
in places, looks gorgeous and original, and is a refreshing change
from the usual pencils. The story isn't groundbreaking, but it's
still well told and intriguing, and well worth the read. As usual,
click on the little image above for the full cover.
